In my country, we call New Year “Hnaik Thit Ku “which is the holding Water Festival, Thin Gyan pwe. It is usually celebrated three days long. Before Hnaik Thit Ku festival, we prepare by cleaning the material things of environment and buy necessities to donate to temple. The day before the first day of Water Festival, we go to the temples to clean the pagodas and Buddha images in the evening. We are very happy, welcoming and preparing for the New Year. Next day again, we go to the temple to take eight precepts in the morning especially elderly people. They spend all day long at the temple, by doing deeds such as meditation, spreading loving & kindness to others and so on. And then, the young people come to the temple so as to donate foods to the monks. During the water festival some children go around the village or city, pouring water one to another happily. In the evening, the children and some elderly people go to the temples and pagodas again in order to light candles with great respect. Finally, we all come back to home and are very happy in the next year. It is to say, water festival, Thin Gyan is the most famous event in the all celebrations of our country.
